A TRIBUTE TO LILLIAN SKROBECKI TICE

Lillian Skrobecki Tice on August 27, 2009, was promoted to Heaven. We respectfully do not give her date of birth because she was always 39 and ceased to age.

Her father. Stan Skrobecki, was an immigrant from Poland who married her mother, Lottie, purchasing his honorable discharge from the U.S. Cavalry for $100 to do so.

Lillian has two sons, Stan Tice, a retired Police Detective, and Orvil (Ty) Tice, a retired Pastor.

Her husband Orvil (Barney) Tice who preceded her in 1982, was a retired Journeyman Machinist/Preacher.

Lillian also had three sisters, Virginia, Edna(Gwen), and Joan.

When Lillian and Barney went to Bob Jones University, she majored in art, while Barney honed his ministerial skills. She painted many scenic, still-life paintings, and black light art for church services, but her favorite was potraits she did of her family including a clay bust of her dad.

On this blog we invite all family and friends to post your fondest memories as we remember the life of a precious great grandmother, grandmother, mom, wife, daughter, sister, and aunt.

Open the comments and go to the end. There you will be able to add your comment also. If the Internet scares you, you may email Ty Tice your comments, and he will blog them for you. bishoptice@gmail.com If even that scares you, PRINT clearly and send your comments to 208 LaGrange Drive, Wake Village, TX 75501.

  1. From Ty Tice - Lillian's youngest son.
In February of 2004 just after mom was put on hospice care, I published in "Spirit and Truth" the following tribute to mom.
    ===============================================
Some exciting things happened over the Christmas celebration and New Year. Betsy and I had a chance to get away for a little rest and relaxation. During this time, we visited my wonderful mom, who is in her mid eighties. My dad, who was a Baptist minister, and mom raised their son in the "nurture and admonition of the Lord Jesus." I am so blessed for my past.
Many have not had that experience, so we who have, must stand in the gap until they come into true family relationship with the Family of God. How blessed I was when I received a report from my aunt, Joan Messenger, about the church service they (mom and she) had as they read from "Life in the Word" by Joyce Meyers and sang hymns together. I thought of the Scripture, "Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." The doctors have Mom on hospice care and check on her weekly. Before we left San Diego, she told me, "In case I don't see you again, I want you to know, that I am proud of you." As I held back the tears, I told her how proud I was of her. She never lost her faith, always believed the best for her boys, and would never accept a negative report.
Isn't that what God does for us? "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9
So often we pay our tributes after our loved ones have gone on to be with the Lord. I wanted to do this one while she is still alive. Thank God for faithful parents.

Little did we know that she would live for over 5 more years, blessing us with her love and her positive outlook on life. Her sister Gwen cared for her and Mom would always say how her sister would spoil her with that little smile that said she enjoyed all the attention she was getting.

We miss her but now she is standing before the Lord with her beloved Barney. We always said dad wouldn't mind if she found another man, but she would just say, "No one could measure up."

Love you mom and see you in a couple more decades.

  2. I never had the privilege of meeting Mrs. Tice, but I did in fact have the honor of working very closely with the youngest of the two sons. Our nine years of working very closely together for the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ, I found a man I could entrust with the souls of those in our care and not have to worry about where he would take them. In our times together I would hear stories of his family and the prayers that his mother and father prayed to bring back a wayward son to Christ. If for no other reason, even in not having the chance to personally meet her, I amd eternally grateful for her prayers as I have gleaned a friendship with her son that continues to this day.
Thank you Ms. Tice for the fervent prayers of a mother that was brave enough to believe her God was able to restore her son to the faith of our Lord! Since then your son has brought many to Christ and gathered many friends that he daily encourages to continue in their faith. This, Mrs. Tice, is only a portion of the reward you will receive when you enter through those glorious gates and meet our Saviour face to face!
    God bless,
    Sincerely,
Rev. Robert D. Kee, Ordained Bishop
    Riverview Church of God

  4. Beautiful... In the days before she shed her earth suit, I wondered what she looked like. I wanted to thank her for her incredible love for the Lord Jesus and her steadfast faith that left a lasting impression on her family. I never got to meet this woman, yet I know without a doubt, I will speak with her someday as if I have known her always.
Thank you, Mrs. Tice(Grandma) Can't wait to meet you!

  7. From Betsy Tice, Daughter-in-Law...
    Thank you, Mom, For...
Being the mom of two fine sons, one of whom it has been my honor and privilege to be married to for 36+ glorious and blessed years.
Being a second mom to me. You were never a mother-in-law.
Being kind in general and specifically about my potato dumplings which were sometimes like snowballs and sometimes like mashed potatoes.
Being a giver of your love, your talents, your faith in Jesus, your possessions, though few in an earthly sense, and your encouragement.
Being a person who put others ahead of herself, often at great personal cost.
Being a beautiful example of what it means to be a "virtuous woman." (Proverbs 31:10-31)
Proverbs 31:10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

  8. Ty - What a lovely tribute to your mom. She was teasing and enjoying all the activities at the Drucker household to the end.

She came to rely on and trust Tim and he also took excellent care of her in her last days.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Stan, Betsy, Donna and her only granddaughter Andrea.

Love - Cousin Gwen and family

  9. FROM STAN TICE - Lillian's Oldest Son
I wanted to let it be known that in the mid to late 40s, Mom turned out many large religious paintings, most of which were given away. Then in about 1950-51, she did a very large woodland painting with a stream running thru it. The canvass, about 7' X 11' in size, was painted on commission by a Baptist church in Mount Clemons, Michigan, as a backdrop for its baptistry. The stream appeared to flow into the baptistry -- it was quite spectacular.
She was also a caring and compassionate person, nursing and caring for her aged mother in the 80s.

  10. @Fomessenger - my Aunt Lillian was a beacon of peace, love and hopeful joy to me as a child. I felt a deep love for her because of the way she always loved me. Being an ADHD kid growing up is really tough. Growing up with that and a broken home only exacerbated the pain I felt. But whenever I was with Lillian, she loved me just as if she were my own mother. When I was 20 I discovered that her love was even deeper still, because when I received my first Bible from her 2 weeks after accepting Jesus Christ as my Savior and Lord, I found out who it was in my family that had prayed I would join her eternal family. Aunt Lillian, I can't wait to see you when we meet around God's Throne! Because he lives
